The Environmental Outdoor Class will provide functional, multi-disciplinary, hands-on lessons for students in the Life-skills Special Education class at Copper Beech Middle School in Yorktown, New York. The entire school community (1,500 students and 200 staff) will have the opportunity to work together to learn about gardening and taking care of the environment. We are interested in being E-Mail Pals and would like to exchange: We are interested in exchanging seeds, data and also writing letters to other schools. We have access to a video conferencing unit and would like to correspond with class using that technology if the school has a video conferencing unit.
How our project is helping kids grow: Students are learning about growing vegetables, fruits and flowers. They are learning about the environment and the environment issues. This area provides the opportunity for teacher and students to collaborate and work together as well as learn from each other. The Life-skills Special Education Class works together with general education class and shows them how to plant and garden.
