The College Now program runs a summer gardening experience for NYC public HS students in the Campus Rd. Community Garden at Brooklyn College. Students interact with and learn from 40 community gardeners, an instructor, guest speakers and field trips. Topics include food systems, health and nutrition; soil and composting; the seed cycle; recycling and "zero waste;" engagement in community life.

We are interested in being E-Mail Pals and would like to exchange: Interested in ideas for educating high school students through gardening, as well as role of gardens as part of sustainability and civic engagement initiatives in higher education settings.
How our project is helping kids grow: Students gain awareness of the food systems that impact them, their families, and the farmers and workers who produce food. They reflect on the importance of the choices they can make to their own health as well as that of others and of the planet.
