On Saturday, December 19th, parents and teachers from San Elijo Elementary School (SEES) launched the groundbreaking of the elementary school garden. With pick axes and shovels in hand, volunteers worked hard to prepare the soil for the fruit trees, planter boxes for each grade-level, and compost bins. The SEES Garden will provide hands-on experiences for the students. Math, English, science, and art are a few of the subjects being considered for the garden curriculum. The grand opening of the school garden is scheduled for April 24, 2010, during the SEES Country Fair. Due to the recent educational budget cuts, the garden is being constructed fully through donations from the San Diego community.
