Pizza Theme Garden

Question: The kids are really excited about trying to grow a Pizza Garden, but what exactly are we supposed to plant in it?

Answer: The pizza garden is a very popular concept since almost everybody likes pizza, and it's fun to think you could grow some of the ingredients. Here are some suggestions:

Plant your garden in the shape of a pizza (or a pizza slice) and make sure to have a pizza party or two during the season. Since pepperoni doesn't grow on trees, you'll have to make do with growing the vegetarian ingredients for an Italian-style tomato sauce and maybe a few toppings.

Start with paste tomatoes and a basil plant or two for seasoning. If you feel ambitious, you might add green bell peppers and onions, along with some garlic for zip. If you have a gourmet cook (or a spaghetti fan) in the group, add oregano and thyme to the mix.

Remember to dry and save some of the herbs so you can enjoy the flavor from your pizza garden through next winter also.
