Plants and Music

Question: For my daughter's science fair project, she wants to compare plants grown with classical music playing and plants grown with rock music. There don't seem to be any definitive scientific studies on this subject. Can you help?

Answer: Although it's a common topic for science fairs, I'm afraid that your daughter will have difficulty finding any research materials, and she may be disappointed in her experiment results. I suggest you steer her toward an experiment with more widely available research. For example, she might compare the growth rates of plants fertilized with different amounts of fertilizer. This type of experiment has the added benefit that it relates more closely to real-life growing situations.
