Invite students to explore how objects' shadows
change through the day and year. Have them use popsicle sticks
to mark the path of a tree, flagpole, or other object as it
moves across the ground during the day. You can also map the
shadow's size and location during different seasons, and prepare
overlays showing shifting patterns of light and shadows. Have
students consider how the size of shadows is related to the
angle of sunlight. How might understanding this relationship
help in choosing a greenhouse site?
