A River Ran Wild: An Environmental History, by Lynne Cherry. A pictorial history of Massachusetts and New Hampshire's Nashua River, from its valley's settlement 7,000 years ago by Native Americans until its recent reclamation. A story that is emblematic of the need for nationwide conservation efforts.

Alison's Zinnia, by Anita Lobel. Alison acquired an amaryllis for Beryl. Beryl bought a begonia for Cystal. And so Anita Lobel begins a floral journey through the alphabet. The focal point of each page is a watercolor painting of the featured flower. Appropriate for preschool and up.

Anno's Magic Seed by Mitsumasa Anno. This book interweaves math games with the story of the sustenance seeds provide us, so it can be read on different levels. (Ages 5-8)

Apples and Pumpkins, by Anne Rockwell A little girl and her parents drive to a farm to pick apples and pumpkins. A surprise twist at the end reveals that the trip to the farm was in preparation for Halloween.

 

Beautiful by Susi Gregg Fowler. A touching story about the gift of gardening and watching that gift blossom. The story centers on the relationship between a garden, an uncle, and his nephew.
